(Illinois) The Illinois House of Representatives passed a proposal to create an emergency 9-8-8 call provider that will provide mental health professionals that can treat people experiencing mental health crises instead of standard police. The proposal will be sent to the Senate to be voted on. Sponsors are saying this change is needed to make the people of Illinois safer. In addition, the Chicago Police Department Superintendent, David Brown, agrees that officers are asked to do too much that they aren’t trained or qualified to undertake. More of this story here.

Bread for the City, a D.C. nonprofit that provides food, medical, and social services to low-income residents, has filed a lawsuit against the city for
