Alberto Gutiérrez Reyes, 48, was a Westlake man held at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center who died on February 27, 2026, at Victor Valley Global Medical Center in Victorville. His wife said he had diabetes and high cholesterol, and said he did not receive medication while in custody. ICE said he reported feeling faint on February 25 and was transferred to the hospital for chest pain and shortness of breath. ICE said he became unresponsive early on February 27 and was pronounced dead at 12:58 a.m. His family and critics say he was denied needed medical attention. Los Angeles City Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez said he was the ninth known person to die in ICE custody this year.
