Daniel McAlpin was a 41 year-old suffering from mental illness. He would have hallucinations that evil spirits lived within his house. McAlpin’ parents said McAlpin had a history of mental illness and was diagnosed with “anxiety disorder” two years before the shooting.

A Mobile Mental Health unit was called into McAlpin’s home due to a concern from his boss. When police arrived, McAlpin asked them to leave. After refusing to leave, police officers found McAlpin carrying a knife. McAlpin was then tazed and shot multiple times until death.
