Daniel Prude (Rochester, New York) was a man with psychiatric disabilities. On March 23, 2020, he ran out of the home without almost no clothing. His brother called 911 for assistance. The police arrived and restrained him, when Daniel went into cardiac arrest. The police first claimed his death was from a drug overdose. However, camera footage later revealed that officers had covered his head with a “spit sock” and held him on the ground in a prone position before he stopped breathing. The coroner determined his death was a homicide by asphyxiation. Seven of the police officers have been suspended.
