Evelyn Towry (Bonner, ID: 2008) was an 8-year-old girl with autism. Towry was attending a Christmas party at her elementary school. Towry wore a cow outfit for the party. Her teachers thought Towry’s outfit was inappropriate and would not let her attend the party. Towry was escorted to another room where she was supposed to wait alone until the party ended. Towry tried to leave the room when the teachers started grabbing her, causing Towry to scream and spit at the teachers. The teachers called the police to arrest Towry without her parents’ knowledge in order to make an example of her. The police arrived, arrested Towry, and charged her for battery for spitting at the teachers. The charges were later dropped.
