Rubin Solis, who has Huntington’s Disease, was brutally beaten by the police when his disabilities prevented him from complying with police orders. He settled a lawsuit against the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department in Texas to require them to take mental health and disability training. However, the Sheriff’s Department stated that they had already been trained to work with people with disabilities at the time Solis was beaten, suggesting that perhaps the further police training is not the answer.
