(Houston) Nicolas Chavez was a 27-year-old man with psychiatric disabilities. On April 21, 2020, the police were called when he was seen running through traffic appearing to be suicidal. The police allege that Chavez approach the officers with a bar and so they fired at him with a taser. They allege that he then tried to grab the taser, at which point they shot him 21 times and killed him. However, a video of the shooting showed that he was on his knees at the time he was shot. The four police officers involved–Patrick Rubio, Omar Tapia, Luis Alvarado, and Benjamin LeBlanc–have been fired.
