Steven Jones

On Friday, February 27th, police were called to a home on Blue Hills Avenue for a man suffering from a mental health crisis. As they arrived, Jones stood at the front of his apartment holding a large knife.  After 5 minutes of attempting to get him to drop it, an officer approached Jones saying “You’re going to get shot”, and “Last time, drop the knife, drop it”.  Jones was then shot nine times.

As a result of his actions and disruption in the de-escalation process, the officer who shot Jones was terminated from his role as a police officer and has been charged with manslaughter.  The inspector general condemned his actions and decision to use deadly force.
