Brenda Díaz, a transgender woman with HIV, has been held in a men’s prison for two years after participating in an anti-government protest in Cuba on July 11, 2021. She was arrested in Güira de Melena along with hundreds of others during the demonstrations, and despite appealing her 14-year sentence, Cuba’s People’s Supreme Court upheld it, and she remains a political prisoner. There are concerns about her receiving appropriate medical care and reports of mistreatment in prison.
