Women killed by police were more likely than men to have a reported mental health issue

“About 31 percent, or 77, of the 247 women fatally shot by police since 2015 had mental health issues, compared to 22 percent of the 5,362 men killed. . . .By the time police use fatal force against someone in mental distress, that person often has not had professional help and may be a danger to themselves or others. . .This kind of encounter is a greater risk for a woman than for a man. . .because officers may be slower to identify a woman in mental crisis and take her to a hospital. Without treatment, future interactions with police could end in a fatal use of force by officers” More of the story here.
